Mike Schmidt Answers Your Frequently Asked Questions

Mike Schmidt General Contractor

1. What is a General Contractor?

Answer:  A General Contractor is a licensed and insured professional for all aspects of the construction process.  Utilizing the invaluable knowledge and experience I have obtained from my many years in the industry, I am able to manage projects ensuring they run smoothly, finish within budget, and instill confidence in my customers that their home is in good hands.

2. Why does an inspection background help in construction?

Answer:  I have the ability to go right to the source of the problem.  I reduce investigation time and just get the work done.  On larger jobs requiring permitted work, I know what city inspectors are looking for and almost always pass the first time.

3. Why do such small jobs when you are running large jobs like building new homes?  Isn’t it a waste of time?

Answer:  I have two sides to my company: One is dedicated to remodels and the other to building.  Several of my small jobs have lead into full sized remodels or even new home builds at a later date.  I like to develop a relationship with my clients and be their contractor for life.

4. Is it more expensive to hire you to run my job than it would be for me to hire all of the trades myself?

Answer: NO!  I have negotiated with all my tradesmen a 10-15% reduction in fees to cover my profit due to the volume of work I give them.  I also save my clients more money by streamlining the process and reducing errors commonly made by homeowners.
